TOWSON Md. – Sophomore Aiden Devaney (Baltimore, Md.) has been named the Goucher College Male Athlete of the Week following a 1-1-0 week for the men's soccer team (4-3-0, Landmark 0-0-0).
Devaney was a key member of the back defensive line that held opponents to only two goals throughout the week. He also went on to score the first goal of his career in a 3-1 win over Shenandoah on Saturday. The sophomore from Baltimore, Md. carried the ball from the Goucher defensive third into Shenandoah territory, leaving Hornet defenders in his wake. Finally, he carried the ball along the top of the eighteen until he found an opening to drill a rocket into the upper right-high ninety to give the Gophers a 2-1 lead in the second half.
Devaney and the rest of the Goucher defensive line have allowed only 0.85 goals per game in 2017. The Gophers as a team have notched three shutouts during the 2017 campaign and allowed more than one goal only twice in the season.
Goucher men's soccer is back in action on Tuesday, September 19th when they welcome McDaniel College to Beldon Field for a 7 p.m. showdown.
