Goucher Opens as Runner-Up to Mary Washington

McMahon Places First, Qualifies for Regionals in Intermediate Fences

TOWSON, Md. – Only one team finished with a higher score than Goucher today at the first IHSA Zone IV Region I riding show of the season, which was hosted by Mount St. Mary's.

Mary Washington picked up 49 points today to take a 16-point lead over Goucher (33 points) in the region standings. Maryland concluded the day in third place with 26 points and George Washington was in fourth with 25. Twelve riding programs scored at least a point during today's show.

With her performance today, Goucher's Claire McMahon (Kings Point, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) earned first place and qualified for regionals in March in intermediate equitation over fences.

Two other Goucher riders were awarded first place in their divisions: Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) in open equitation on the flat and Emily McCormack (Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) in beginning walk-trot-canter equitation.

Finishing second from Goucher were Courtney Levine (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) in novice flat, April Kerns (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) in advanced walk-trot-canter and Shauntae Robinson (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) in walk-trot.
