Only One Point Separates Goucher, Mary Washington

Brandt Takes First in Open Flat, Shelley in Intermediate Flat

TOWSON, Md. – Goucher placed second today in the second IHSA Zone IV Region I riding show of the season, but only fell a point further behind Mary Washington in the region standings.

First-place performances by Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) in open equitation on the flat and Emily Shelley (Reisterstown, Md./home schooled) in intermediate equitation on the flat helped Goucher accumulate 37 points today, one fewer than Mary Washington. George Washington earned 34 points to finish in third place and St. Mary's (Md.) was fourth with 30 points.

After two shows, Mary Washington enjoys a 17-point lead over Goucher in the Zone IV Region I standings, 87-70.

Three Goucher riders were awarded second places today: Courtney Levine (Miami, Fl./Miami Palmetto) in novice equitation over fences, Sarah Ashby (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) in novice flat and Emily McCormack (Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) in beginning walk-trot-canter. And three others placed third: Taylor Marcus (Unionville, Pa./Unionville) in intermediate fences, April Kerns (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) in advanced walk-trot-canter and Shauntae Robinson (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) in walk-trot.
