Postel Finishes in Ninth Place in Medal Class
Goucher Makes Solid Showing in Opener of Exhibition Series

ROANOKE, Va. – A team comprised of eight riders from Goucher
placed 13th at the first competition of the 2009-10 season, the
IHSA Tournament of Champions Preseason Classic.
Karli Postel (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian
School), one of the riders who represented Goucher at the
event, distinguished herself in the medal class, which drew a total
of 24 competitors. The class begins with a flat phase and the top
half are called back for fences. Postel was among the riders
brought back to jump was finished in ninth place overall.
Postel also competed in open equitation over fences and was
awarded third place.
Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) placed
second in open equitation on the flat and Goucher had two riders
place fourth in their class: Catherine Gregory (Oregon
City, Ore./Canby) in intermediate flat and India
Kushner (Manhasset, N.Y./The Waldorf School of Garden
City) in walk-trot.
The team title of this presigious event went to Virginia Tech,
which scored 29 points for a two-point victory over Bridgewater (27
points). Berry placed third (25 points), Savannah Art & Design
(24) was fourth and there was a three-way tie for fifth involving
Mt. Holyoke and a pair of teams from Hollins (23 apiece). Goucher
earned a team score of 16 points.
Goucher will compete in two more events this season that are part
of the IHSA Tournament of Champions, a non-sanctioned exhibition
series: the Holiday Tournament of Championsin Hackettstown, N.J.,
on December 5-6 and the Tournament of Champions Winter Classic in
Fredericksburg, Va., on January 31.
