Spartans Notch Third Win, Pin 5-0 Defeat on Gophers

Koziel Registers Goucher's First Defensive Save of 2008

September 11, 2008

YORK, Pa. – Goucher's chances of knocking off York this afternoon were dealt a serious blow when the Spartans struck for two goals in the final 3:57 of the first half to open up a 3-0 lead in what ended up being a 5-0 victory over head coach Warren Prestwich's Gophers (1-3).

The Spartans (3-1) grabbed a 1-0 advantage just 3:32 into the contest on a goal by April McFarland before Allison Roush and Megan Spangler notched goals for York as the opening period was winding down. Spangler scored again 10:24 into the second half, extending York's lead to 4-0.

The final goal of the game was the culmination of a penalty corner and was actually scored by Kelly Kramer after time had officially expired.

Barb Koziel (Holland Twp., N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) was credited with Goucher's first defensive save of the season.
