Gophers Allow First Goal, Suffer First Setback

Scoreless Streak Ends at 230:17 with Goal by Skiest

September 8, 2009

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Goucher was more than 20 minutes into its fourth game before it surrendered its first goal of the season. And in this case, unfortunately, it was one more goal than the Gophers could afford to give up.

Thanks to a goal that Allie Skiest scored with 14:43 remaining in the first half, St. Mary's (Md.) came out on top of head coach Warren Prestwich's squad, 1-0, today.

Micki Manheimer (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth), who started in goal for the Gophers (3-1) and made 10 saves, had kept opponents off the scoreboard for the first 230:17 of the season before getting beat by Skiest.

The Seahawks (2-1) outshot the Gophers, 21-3.
