September 22, 2009

TOWSON, Md. – Goucher stayed within a goal of York into the second half tonight before the Spartans put up two additional goals and settled for a 3-0 victory over head coach Warren Prestwich's Gophers.

The Spartans (3-4) assumed a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Allison Roush at 12:09 of the first half. It wasn't until more than six minutes had elapsed in the second period that the Gophers (4-4) saw their deficit grow to 2-0 thanks to an unassisted goal by Casey Lawrence.

Heather Re scored York's final goal at 56:46.

The Gophers came close to scoring in the final minute of play, but reserve goalie Maggie Schlauch made a pair of saves, including one on a penalty stroke.

Micki Manheimer (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) started in goal for Goucher for the seventh time this season and made 10 saves. The Spartans finished with a 19-7 edge in shots.
