Rangers Never Trail in 5-1 Win Over Gophers

Cadwallender's Penalty Stroke Produces Goucher's Goal

October 3, 2009

TOWSON, Md. – A penalty stroke by Mary Cadwallender (Fredericksburg, Va./The Madeira School) got Goucher on the scoreboard 11:23 into the second half, but the two goalies who got into the game for Drew didn't allow anything else past them as the Rangers handed the Gophers a 5-1 Landmark Conference loss today on Beldon Field.

The Rangers (7-3, 2-0 Landmark) assumed a 1-0 advantage just 2:20 into the contest on a goal by Nicole DiBattista. Within a span of 6:47 later in the period, goals by Kati Eggert, Hannah Rau and Natalie Fleming added to Drew's lead, which stood at 4-0 at the end of the first half.

Exactly 1:00 after Cadwallender's successful penalty stroke, the Rangers regained a four-goal cushion when DiBattista tallied her second goal of the game.

Drew outshot Goucher, 11-3, in the opening 35:00, but the Gophers unleashed 10 shots in the second half to narrow the gap. Lauren Fasano started in goal for the Rangers and made three saves; her back-up, Stef Rutkowski, turned away six shots.

For Goucher (4-7, 0-2 Landmark), Micki Manheimer (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and Ellie Brown (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) evenly split time in goal and were credited with six and three saves, respectively.
