Rangers Pull Away in Second Half for 4-1 Victory

Manheimer Stops Penalty Stroke, Finishes with 16 Saves

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher and Drew traded goals in the first six minutes of today's Landmark Conference game on Beldon Field and reached halftime deadlocked at 1-1. Just 1:58 into the second half, however, the Rangers assumed a 2-1 advantage and went on to complete a 4-1 victory over head coach Whitney Raffo's Gophers.

The Rangers (8-5, 3-0 Landmark) got on the scoreboard first when Meghan Howlett deflected a shot by one of her teammates into the cage at 3:19, but could only hold the 1-0 lead for 1:49 before Goucher drew even on a goal by Lindsay Jones (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) that began with the Gophers (4-7, 0-4 Landmark) being awarded a penalty corner. Jones inserted the ball, setting up a shot by Katie Gallagher (Green Brook, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional). Gallagher's attempt appeared to be headed wide of the goal, but Jones was in position to knock it in.

In the second half, Drew unleashed a total of 22 shots and went ahead to stay on an unassisted goal by Howlett at 36:58.

Erin Maguire's unassisted goal at 40:45 made the score 3-1; Howlett tallied her third goal of the contest and team-leading 10th of the season at 62:15 to conclude the scoring.

Micki Manheimer (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) made the 47th start of her collegiate career in goal for Goucher and faced 40 shots. She finished with 16 saves, which included a stop on a penalty stroke in the first half when the score was still knotted a 1-1.

Hannah Phillips (Morrisville, Pa./George School) recorded a defensive save for the Gophers, her second of the season.
