Welch and Klock Earn NFHCA Scholars of Distinction Award

CHANDLER, AZ – Senior Celia Welch (Arlington, MA) and sophomore Sam Klock have been named Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction for the 2016-17 academic year.

The Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or greater through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year. Each representative was also placed on the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad on Thursday, with that list requiring a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 or greater.

A total of 208 student-athletes representing 103 different schools were recognized as Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Scholars of Distinction on Thursday.

Welch is being honored for the fourth year in a row after maintaining a 3.9 GPA or greater throughout her entire career. Klock has been named a Scholar of Distinction for a second time at Goucher.

The Goucher College field hockey team also landed 12 student-athletes on the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. The honorees are listed below:

Amongst maintaining a stellar academic standard during the 2016 season, the Goucher College Gophers posted an 8-9 record (3-4 in Landmark play) and earned the teams' second berth to the Landmark Conference playoff since joining the conference in 2007. Goucher fell to the eventual champion, Elizabethtown College, 2-1, with time expired on a penalty corner.
