TOWSON, Md. - Thirty-four student-athletes were inducted into Goucher's newly formed chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma, the first national scholar-athlete society to honor collegiate student-athletes who have excelled in both the classroom and in athletic competition, during a ceremony that took place this evening in the Sports & Recreation Center.

TOWSON, Md. - Thirty-four student-athletes were inducted into Goucher's newly formed chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma, the first national scholar-athlete society to honor collegiate student-athletes who have excelled in both the classroom and in athletic competition, during a ceremony that took place this evening in the Sports & Recreation Center.
Founded in 1996, Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes college students who receive a varsity letter in their sport while maintaining a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA throughout their junior and senior years.
Membership in local chapters is an honor bestowed upon selected student-athletes. Selection for membership is by an athletic department designee in consultation with the individual's head coach and is based on outstanding scholarship, earned athletic letter winner, and excellent character and citizenship.
Dr. Robert Lewand, professor of mathematics and computer science and Goucher's faculty athletic representative to the NCAA, presided over the induction ceremony at which the following became the school's inaugural class of Chi Alpha Sigma:
