Gophers Extend Winning Streak to Three Games

Greco Tallies Team-High 8th Goal in 3-2 Victory Over Eagles

Oct. 27, 2007

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Presented with the opportunity to finish the season with a three-game winning streak, Goucher followed up victories over Lancaster Bible and Gwynedd-Mercy earlier this week with a 3-2 Landmark Conference triumph this afternoon over Juniata.

The Gophers (8-9-1, 2-4-1 Landmark) never trailed after an unassisted goal by Geoffrey Gray-Cornelius (Poughkeepsie, NY/Oakwood Friends School) at 20:01 provided them with a 1-0 advantage. A goal by Alexis Mathov (Arlington, VA/Wakefield) at 39:28 stretched Goucher's lead to 2-0 at halftime.

The Eagles (3-14, 1-6 Landmark) closed to within 2-1 just 3:46 into the second half on an unassisted goal by Bryan Hess, but the Gophers regained a two-goal lead at 62:43 when Julien Greco (Shutesbury, MA/St. George's School) tallied his team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Just :15 after Greco's goal, the Eagles answered with a goal by Matt Wren to make the score 3-2, but neither team was able to score over the final 27:02 of the contest.

With the win, the Gophers moved ahead of Catholic into sixth place in the final 2007 Landmark Conference standings.
