McMullen's PK Clinches Victory Over Shoremen

Goals by Herting, Brody Stake Gophers to 2-0 Advantage

September 10, 2008

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – A successful penalty kick by Tim McMullen (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) at 77:43 provided Goucher with a 3-1 lead over Washington (Md.) tonight and proved to be the final margin of victory for head coach Gary Dunda's Gophers in a 3-2 triumph over the Shoremen.

The two sides combined to take only five shots in the first half, but one of them turned into a goal by Chris Herting (Chalfont, Pa./Germantown Academy) less than six minutes into the contest. Andrew Eden (Damascus, Md./Sandy Spring Friends School) sent an indirect kick ahead to Herting, earning an assist.

The Gophers (3-2) extended their lead to 2-0 at 56:04 when Julien Greco (Shutesbury, Mass./St. George's School) found a cutting Dan Brody (Stonington, Conn./Stonington), who got behind the Washington defense and scored.

The Shoremen (1-3) closed to within 2-1 at 64:06 on a goal by Jordan Haas, but McMullen's PK restored Goucher's lead to two goals. Haas picked up an assist on a goal by Tomy Armiger at 81:56 that closed out the scoring.
