Flying Dutchmen Depart Beldon with 1-0 Victory

Missed Penalty Kick Ruins Gophers' Chances of Tying Score

September 13, 2008

TOWSON, Md. – A foul in the box in the final minute of play this afternoon provided Goucher with a penalty kick and an excellent opportunity to pull even with Lebanon Valley. But the attempt sailed high, allowing the Flying Dutchmen (4-2) to depart Beldon Field with a 1-0 non-conference victory.

Morgan Crouse's unassisted goal at 48:41 stood up as the only score of the contest in which the two teams combined to take 24 shots. Tim Mehl was the goalie of record for Lebanon Valley and needed to make only two saves to record the shutout, both of them in the second half. For Goucher (3-3), junior Justin Holbrook (Claymont, Del./Wilmington Friends School) was credited with seven saves, including six in the final period.

Crouse also tallied the only goal in the Flying Dutchmen's 1-0 triumph over head coach Gary Dunda's Gophers last season.
