Goucher Loses at Nationally Ranked Drew

MADISON, N.J. - Goucher (6-7-5, Landmark 1-4-2) dropped a 4-1 decision on Saturday to #11 nationally ranked Drew University in Madison, NJ.  With the victory over the Gophers, the Rangers complete an undefeated season in the Landmark Conference and finish their regular season undefeated (17-0-1).

Drew jumped out of the gates early scoring on four of their first five shots on goal.  The Gophers gave themselves some life with an unassisted goal by Sophomore Brandon Cohen (Redondo Beach, CA) with 3:45 seconds remaining in the first half.  The Gophers entered intermission with a large hill to climb, down 4-1.

After halftime, Cohen had another legitimate scoring chance that was denied by a great save from the Drew goalkeeper. Junior Konrad Bulanowski (Philadelphia, PA) missed just over the bar minutes later.  The Gophers continued to push the tempo as they outshot Drew in the second half but could not penetrate the Ranger goal to inch any closer.  With no second-half scoring from either side, the final score was in Drew's favor, 4-1.

Shots for the match finished in favor of Drew 25 to 18 with Drew holding an advantage in shots on goal at 10 to 9.  Junior goalkeeper Daniel Hendry (Lewisburg, PA) finished with 6 saves in the match while the Drew goalkeepers combined for 8 saves.

The match marked the final games in the careers of seniors Sam Bloxam (Center Valley, PA), Elton Kativhu (Harare, Zimbabwe), Scott Mt. Pleasant (Clifton, Park, NY), and Drew Phillips (Hoosick Falls, NY).
