THE PROGRAM
The Goucher College Men's Soccer Program is a year long
program. The program has three phases: Traditional Season,
Non-Traditional Season (Spring), and Summer Training.
Non-Traditional (Spring) Season:
This is the first phase of the season. During this time players will concentrate on well rounded fitness. This includes soccer-specific running, weight training, agility (applied foot work), and plyometrics. Working on becoming a more well rounded athlete as well as a soccer player is the focus. Playing competitive indoor soccer is also a part of this phase. This phase will evolve into Spring Practice. Once back on the field, tactical and technical training will resume. Working on improving individually and collectively will be the goal.
Summer Training (Included):
A training manual will be issued to each player. This manual will prepare all players for the upcoming season. The goal of the training manual is to have each player run 1 mile in 5 minutes or less. It will include various types of running, and physical conditioning to both physically and mentally prepare the players. Along with physical conditioning, a strong emphasis will be placed on technical training and playing competitive soccer.
Traditional Season:
This Phase begins with the preseason and ends after the NCAA
Tournament. Throughout the season, players will be challenged
daily in both training and competitive play. Player
development and collective team play will be achieved through
technical and tactical training. The hard work and dedication
of the first two phases is both enhanced and displayed while
celebrating the game of soccer.
