Gophers Take 101-55 Hit from Crusaders in Opener

Verin Places First in 500 Free, Second in Two Events

TOWSON, Md. - Goucher launched its 2007-08 season today with a Landmark CXonference meet against Susquehanna and took a 101-55 hit from the Crusaders (1-0, 1-0 Landmark).

The Gophers (0-1, 0-1 Landmark) were trailing, 40-2, after just three events before Mac McDonald (New Port Richey, FL/Avon Old Farms) touched first in the 50-yard freestyle. The senior's winning time was :24.51.

Goucher also captured first place in two other individual events: Sasha Verin (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) won the 500 free with his time of 5:38.75 and Michael Polonchak (Harpers Ferry, WV) placed first in the 100 breaststroke as he completed the event in 1:15.96.

In addition to his first-place performance in the 500 free, Verin placed second in the 200 individual medley (2:14.73) and 100 butterfly (1:01.55).
