Verin Touches First in 500 Free, Second in Two

TOWSON, Md. - Sasha Verin (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) provided Goucher with its only first-place performance today in the Gophers' 101-53 loss to Catholic.
Verin touched first in the 500-yard freestyle, completing the event in 5:38.31. The junior was also runner-up in the 200 freestyle (2:01.04) and 100 butterfly (:59.66).
Mac McDonald (New Port Richey, FL/Avon Old Farms) placed second in a pair of individual events: the 50 (:24.79) and 100 (:56.03) freestyles, and Michael Polonchak (Harpers Ferry, WV) was runner-up in the 100 backstroke (1:11.05) and 100 breaststroke (1:06.10).
The Gophers (0-2, 0-2 Landmark) also produced the second-place performer in the 200 individual medley in Michael Ambrosio (Port Washington, NY/Paul D. Schreiber), who finished in 2:36.80.
