Shoremen Achieve 111-70 Victory Over Gophers

Two Second-Place Performances for Rooney, Williams

TOWSON, Md. – Goucher produced the runner-up in five individual events before Michael Ambrosio (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke in a 111-70 loss to Washington (Md.) this evening.

Ambrosio was competing against only another Goucher swimmer as he earned nine points for the Gophers (2-6) with his effort in the 100 breast. He completed the event in 1:12.95.

The five second-place performances by Goucher swimmers in contested events with the Shoremen (3-3) were achieved by three individuals: Charlie Rooney (Sea Bright, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) was runner-up in the 200 free (2:00.31) and 500 free (5:48.82), Kyle Williams (Andover, N.J./Newton) placed second in the 50 free (:23.92) and 100 back (:58.16), and Sasha Verin (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) turned in a time of :59.80 in the 100 butterfly, good for second place.

The Gophers were also awarded first place and 11 points in the 200 freestyle relay where the winning time was 1:42.81. Swimming for Goucher were Ambrosio, Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston), James Genco (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) and Verin.
