Gophers Take 138-59 Season-Opening Hit
Shalamanov Places First in 100 Breast, Second in 200 Free

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Georgi Shalamanov (Velingrad, Bulgaria/St. St. Kiril & Metodi) touched first in the 100-yard breaststroke, providing Goucher with its only first-place performance in a contested individual event today in a 138-59 season-opening loss to Susquehanna.
Shalamanov's winning time in the 100 breast was 1:04.46.
The Gophers (0-1) also took first place in the final event of the meet when the foursome of Charlie Rooney (Sea Bright, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston), John Vincent (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) and Devin Myles (Turner, Maine/Leavitt Area) turned in a time of 1:47.89 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
In addition to his victory in the 100 breast, Shalamanov was the
runner-up in the 200 free with his time pf 1:52.19. Goucher also
produced the second-place finisher in the 100 back as Kyle
Williams (Andover, N.J./Newton) completed the event in
:58.47.
