Shalamanov Touches First in 200 Free, 200 Breast

Freshman Also Swims Leg on Victorious 400 Free Relay

TOWSON, Md. – Goucher's Georgi Shalamanov (Velingrad, Bulgaria/St. St. Kiril & Metodi) recorded the fastest times in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke during today's meet against Scranton, which saw the Royals defeat the Gophers, 120-73.

The freshman's winning times were 1:48.55 in the 200 free and 2:23.20 in the 200 breast.

Shalamanov also swam the opening leg on the Gophers' victorious 400 free relay, combining with Devin Myles Jr. 5-9 Turner, Maine/Leavitt Area), Kyle Williams Fr. 6-2 Andover, N.J./Newton) and Sasha Verin Sr. 5-10 Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) to post a time of 3:32.34.

Michael Ambrosio (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) was runner-up to Shalamanov in the 200 breast as he completed the event in 2:41.71. Other second-place performances for the Gophers (1-3) came from Verin in the 200 butterfly (2:10.75) and Williams in the 200 back (2:10.52).
