Shalamanov Touches First in 200 IM, 500 Free
Gophers Bow to Crusaders in Season's Opening Meet

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher's Georgi Shalamanov
(Velingrad, Bulgaria/St. St. Kiril & Metodi) produced
the fastest times in both the 200-yard individual medley and the
500-yard freestyle today, but the Gophers were handed a 157-86
setback by Susquehanna today in the first meet of the season for
both Landmark Conference teams.
Shalamanov took first place in the 200 IM by completing the event in 2:05.03 and the 500 free by touching in 5:00.61. He was the runner-up in the 500 free at the 2009 Landmark Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships.
The Gophers (0-1, 0-1 Landmark) also received a first-place performance out of Kyle Williams (Andover, N.J./Newton) in the 50-yard backstroke. The sophomore touched 41-hundredths of a second before Susquehanna's Chadd Lee as he was clocked at :26.48.
Shalamanov and Williams were also the runners-up in one contested individual event: Shalamanov in the 50-yard butterfly (:25.92) and Williams in the 100 back (:57.60). Charlie Rooney (Sea Bright, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) placed second behind Susquehanna's Griffin Kearney in the 100 free with his time of :52.49.
The Crusaders (1-0, 1-0 Landmark) started the meet off by taking
first place in the 400-yard medley relay and didn't contest the
Gophers in the final event, the 400 free relay.
