Williams Places First in 200 IM, 200 Back
Gophers Slip to 0-2 with 108-74 Loss to Cardinals

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher's Kyle Williams (Andover,
N.J./Newton) placed first in a pair of individual events
today during the Gophers' 108-74 loss at home to Catholic in a
Landmark Conference meet.
One of Williams' first-place performances was in the 200-yard individual medley. He completed the event in 2:10.96 and pulled away during the final leg to touch less than :01.1 ahead of Catholic's Kevin Cravedi. The sophomore also earned nine points for the Gophers (0-2, 0-2 Landmark) by taking first place in the 200 backstroke (2:07.64).
Goucher produced the top performer in two other individual events: Charlie Rooney (Sea Bright, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) in the 50 free and Michael Ambrosio (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) in the 200 breaststroke. Rooney's winning time in the 50 free was :23.11; Ambrosio completed the 200 breast in 2:39.54.
Rooney was also the runner-up in the 200 butterfly (2:20.71).
It took the Cardinals (1-1, 1-0 Landmark) only three events to
open up a comfortable 40-8 lead over the Gophers.
