BOYDS, Md. — One of the Richter brothers claimed his seventh conference title during his four seasons at Goucher and the other his first on the opening day of the 2016 Landmark Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships.

For Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Texas), career title No. 7 was for his performance this evening in the 500-yard freestyle, where he was clocked at 4:38.84. He finished 84-hundredths of a second ahead of Guido Saccaggi from Catholic and earned 20 points for the Gophers.

Colin Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) entered the championship finals in the 200-yard individual medley as the No. 7 seed based on his time of 1:58.66 in the preliminaries, but shaved 5.51 seconds off that mark to win the event. His winning time of 1:53.15 is a new school record.

Colin Richter was runner-up to Kevin Lindgren from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in the 200 IM at last year's conference championships.

In both events in which one of the Richters was the top performer this evening, the Gophers had a second swimmer in the consolation finals: Ben Shriner (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) placed 13th overall in the 500 free (4:55.76), which is also where Cody Nelson (Duanesburg, N.Y./Schalmont) ended up in the 200 IM (2:03.30).

Blake Rhodes (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) was also in the consolation finals of the 50 free and placed 16th (:22.58).

Goucher's entry of Colin Richter, Nelson, Morgan Richter and Rhodes completed the 400-yard medley relay in 3:30.17, good for fourth place. In the 200 free relay, the foursome of Colin Richter, Andrew Coon (Cumberland, Maine/Greely), Rhodes and Morgan Richter took fifth place (1:26.80).

With a team score of 107 points, the Gophers sat in fifth place at the conclusion of today's six events.
