Covey Drops Pair of Matches to Div. I Opponents
Goucher Entry Draws No. 1 Seed in Opening RoundSept. 22, 2007
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The luck of the draw was hardly on his side as Chris Covey (Exeter, NH/Exeter) represented Goucher in the main singles draw at the D.C. Metro Championships.
In the opening round, Covey was matched against Sam Salyer from George Washington and suffered a 6-0, 6-0 setback. That dropped him into the consolation bracket where he faced another Division I opponent right off the bat and this time he bowed to Jack Famiglio from Marist 6-2, 6-0.
Goucher also had one entry today in the main doubles draw and it
had to immediately go up against the No. 1 seed in the first round.
The team of Covey and Steve Baum (Fallston,
MD/Fallston) managed to win one game, but eventually
suffered an 8-1 loss to Jeffrey Schnell and Kevin Walsh from
Georgetown.
