Gophers Come Up Short with Only Three Singles Wins
Barrera, McLeod Team Up for Lone Victory in Doubles Play

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Goucher needed four victories in singles
play, but managed only three and, as a result, suffered a narrow
5-4 loss to Guilford today in the final match of the team's Spring
Break trip.
The Quakers (1-4) led 2-1 at the conclusion of doubles play. Goucher's only win was at No. 3 where Francisco Barrera (Wheaton, Md./Wheaton) and Jeff McLeod (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) defeated Brandon Johnson and Jack Friedman, 8-3.
In singles play, Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Billie Weiss (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) both prevailed in straight sets. Baum knocked off Patrick Childs 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3 and Weiss, competing at No. 5, was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Johnson.
The Gophers (0-2) secured their only other point of the match at
No. 6 singles where Alex Vogel (New York, N.Y./The American
School in Switzerland) disposed off Billy Dennis 6-0, 0-6,
6-3.
