October 6, 2009

TOWSON, Md. — When Goucher's J.D. Collongette (Miami, Fla./Suffield Academy) walked off the court today at the conclusion of his 6-0, 6-2 win over Luke Schmidt from McDaniel at No. 5 singles, the Gophers and Green Terror were knotted up at 3-3. The next match to finish was No. 4 singles and a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory by Daniel Csete (Miami, Fla./Brewster Academy) put the Gophers ahead in the match for the first time.

Another match that went to a third set was the next to conclude, and when it was Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, N.Y./Solomon Schechter) coming back from being down a set to prevail 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) over Dan Hovorka at first singles, the Gophers (1-1) had the point that clinched a 5-4 triumph over the Green Terror (0-2).
