TOWSON, Md. — The Landmark Conference announced its weekly awards this afternoon, with Goucher's Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) earning Men's Tennis Player of the Week recognition after improving to 4-0 in dual singles matches this season.
Dating back to the fall, the Gophers have now won the past three POTW awards in the sport of men's tennis. David Spivey (Cockeysville, Md./The Park School) was recognized on Oct. 14, while Hoesman captured the award on Oct. 7.
When Hoesman and his opponent on Saturday, Vishnu Rajes from Washington (Md.), squared off last year at the No. 1 singles spot, it was Rajes who came away with a tight, three-set victory. This time, however, Hoesman exacted revenge with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph, picking up one of Goucher's two points on the afternoon.
Hoesman becomes the fourth Gopher to earn multiple POTW accolades this academic year. Goucher has now won 17 weekly honors overall in 2013-14, with the two tennis programs accounting for six of those awards.
The men's tennis team returns to the court at 3 p.m. Friday with a road matchup at Salisbury. The Gophers' spring home opener will take place at 1 p.m. the following afternoon against Neumann.
