SALISBURY, Md. — Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan/International School Bangkok) earned Goucher's lone point today as head coach Brendan Kincaid's squad resumed its 2015-16 season against regionally ranked Salisbury.

The Sea Gulls (3-0), who hold down the No. 10 spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Atlantic South Region rankings, prevailed 8-1. They began the day by sweeping the three doubles matches and then won five of the six singles matches in straight sets.

The last of the six singles matches to finish was the one at No. 5 between Fujitani and Andrew Rainger. It ended 6-2, 6-2 in Fujitani's favor, keeping the junior undefeated in singles play in 2015-16 at 3-0.

The No. 1 singles match between Goucher's Joey Caracappa (Smithtown, N.Y./Saddlebrook Preparatory School) and Salisbury's Eric Spangler was won by Spangler 7-5, 6-3. At No. 2, Shannon Gunther defeated Jack Hodges (London, England/Shrewsbury School), 6-0, 6-3.

Spangler and Gunther were 8-2 winners over Caracappa and Seth Hoseman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) at first doubles.

This was the first match for the Gophers (3-1) since they wrapped up the fall portion of their 2015-16 schedule in mid-October. Their next match will be at home against Shenandoah on Monday, March 7, beginning at 3 p.m.
