Only One Runner Finishes Ahead of Manta in 3,000-Meter SC

Goucher Throwers Take Fifth in Discus, Seventh in Hammer

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Goucher's Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase today at the Battleground Relays.

Manta, who set the outdoor school record in the event when was clocked at 10:16.61 at last year's Greyhound Invitational, crossed the finish line today in 10:52.10.

The Gophers had two throwers finish in the top eight in an event: Leroy Williams (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) took fifth place in the discus with a throw of 106' 9" and Christian Ribeiro (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) tossed the hammer 53' 8", good for seventh place.

In the relays, Goucher's highest-placing entry was in the sprint medley where the foursome of Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point), Ribeiro, Isaac Jennings (Narberth, Pa./Harriton) and Manta were seventh with a time of 4:09.15.

There was no team scoring in the two-day meet.
