Gophers Place Fifth at CAC Championships

Martin Completes Steeplechase in 10:26, Fourth Place

SALISBURY, MD — Goucher had an individual place as high as fourth and a relay finish as high as third today at the 2007 Capital Athletic Conference Championships.

The fourth-place finish came from Zach Martin (Victor, NY/Victor Central) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The freshman completed the event in 10:26.49, which is a new school record.

The only other individual event in which the Gophers secured team points was the 400-meter hurdles where Harrison Tucker (Clarksville, MD/Cairo American College) placed fifth in a time of :59.82.

Brent Stanford (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) just missed earning points for Goucher with his seventh-place performance in the 200-meter dash, but his time of :23.06 is a new school record.

Goucher, which finished in fifth place in the team scoring with 16 points, captured third place in the 4 x 100-meter relay and fifth in the 4 x 400. In the shorter of the two events, the unit of Jeffery Whitaker (Prince Georges County, MD/The Barrie School), Travis Boland (Athol, MA/Ralph C. Mahar), Tucker and Stanford posted a time of :44.40; in the 4 x 400, Sean Mack (Albany, NY/Albany), Boland, Whitaker and Tucker collectively completed the event in 3:40.38.

Salisbury captured the team title with 262.33 points. York (154.66) was second and Mary Washington (97) third.
