Hartung's list of accomplishments is unsurpassed in the history for York College and the Capital Athletic Conference. He was a seven-time NCAA Division III All-American (twice in cross country, twice in indoor track and field, and three times in outdoor track and field), a five-time All-Capital Athletic Conference Athlete of the Year, a three-time Capital Athletic Conference men's cross country champion, a 16-time Capital Athletic Conference track and field (indoor and outdoor) champion, and a two-time national Capital One Academic All-America.

After graduating from York, in 2014, Hartung served as an Assistant Cross Country Coach at Lebanon Valley College for the 2015 season. He helped the men’s and women’s teams to fifth place finishes at the MAC Championships and also coached standout Kelsey Patrick to her fourth straight NCAA National Championship meet.

 Hartung is a Registered Nurse  and was employed at Penn State Hershey Medical Center after graduating from York College of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. He moved to the Baltimore area in the summer of 2016  to pursue his passion for coaching by becoming a Graduate Assistant for the cross country and track & field teams at Goucher, and beginning work on a Masters of Education with a focus in Athletic Leadership and Administration.
