UPDATE: As of August 11, the track is now reopened to the public (picture below)
TOWSON, Md. — The Goucher College Track, which will be entering its 15th year of existence during the upcoming school year, will be closed in the upcoming weeks to undergo a variety of refurbishments.
The track was closed to the public on June 27, and work began on July 1. The most significant of the projects being undertaken during the construction period is an entire resurfacing of the track for the first time since it was built. Low spots and water damage areas will also be repaired, and the track will be repainted.
"On any given day, the track is used by not only the athletic department, but also by an additional 50-200 people," cross country and track & field head coach John Caslin said. "So there has been substantial wear to the facility. We are very excited for these renovations, and expect that the facility will be ready to go in time for the start of our cross country season."
The cross country teams will host the annual Goucher XC Classic on October 11, and Goucher will also host the eighth annual Landmark Conference Championships on November 1.
