Newman-Blount Collects Points in Three Events
Cooney, Macaluso Place Fifth in Hammer, 200-Meter Dash

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Sheba Newman-Blount (Lanham, MD/Bishop Ireton) earned points for Goucher in three different events and also broke the outdoor school record in the triple jump today at the Messiah Invitational.
Newman-Blount picked up a total of eight points: five for placing fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:13.55), two for her seventh-place performance in the 100-meter dash (:13.24) and one for winding up in eight place in the triple jump where she bettered the previous school record with an effort of 34-feet 0.25-inches.
The Gophers finished with a team score of 18 points, good for
14th place. Their remaining points came from Abby Cooney
(Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) for placing fifth in the
hammer throw (100-feet, 10-inches), Dana Macaluso
(Huntington, NY/Huntington) for placing fifth in the
200-meter dash (:27.19) and Dayna Mizzer (Prince Frederick,
MD/Calvert) for placing seventh in the 100-meter hurdles
(:17.00).
