Newman-Blount Grabs First in Hurdles, Triple Jump

Cooney Places First in Discus, Second in Hammer Throw

ANNVILLE, Pa. – First-place performances by Abby Cooney (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) in the hammer throw and Sheba Newman-Blount (Lanham, Md./Bishop Ireton) in both the 400-meter hurdles and triple jump facilitated a third-place finish by Goucher at today's Lebanon Valley Invitational.

The Gophers ended the meet with a total of 28 points and trailed only York (105.5 points) and Lebanon Valley (97.5) in the team scoring.

With first place worth six points, Newman-Blount secured 12 points by completing the 400 hurldes in 1:12.31 and bounding 33-feet, 5.25-inches in the long jump.

Cooney's winning throw in the hammer competition was 100-feet, 8-inches. She also placed third in the discus with a throw of 89-feet, 1-inch.

Caitlin Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland) took third place for Goucher in the 400-meter dash (1:07.55), Hannah Southworth (Madbury, N.H./Oyster River) placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run (25:26.56) and Barb Koziel (Holland Twp., N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) was fourth in the 800-meter run (2:52.85) and fifth in the 1,500-meter run (5:57.65).

Goucher's 4 x 400-meter relay consisting of Biggers, Koziel, Kanika Staten (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) and Newman-Blount finished in fourth place with its time of 4:41.16.
