October 5, 2009

MADISON, N.J. — Goucher's Megan Smith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Long Beach Polytechnic), the Landmark Conference leader in kills, today was named the conference's Volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 28-Oct. 4.

In five matches during the week, the senior outside hitter supplied the Gophers with 70 kills and 72 digs, and that included a 20-kill, 24-dig performance in a 22-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-20, 15-8 triumph over Moravian. She also had 11 service aces, 11 blocks and three assists in the five matches.

"Megan has played at a high level the entire season, but we really needed her to do what she did with three Landmark Conference matches over the weekend," commented Michael Bossom, Goucher's head volleyball coach. "That was a good stage for her to have some outstanding matches."

Smith is leading the Landmark Conference in kills at 3.91 per game.
