Shorewomen Extend Streak by Topping Gophers

Hogstrom Touches First in 50 Free, On Victorious 800 Free Relay

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Britt Hogstrom (Killington, VT/Woodstock Union) turned in a first-place performance in a contested individual event and swam the opening leg on Goucher's victorious 800-yard freestyle relay in this evening's meet against Washington (Md.), which was won by the Shorewomen, 134-84.

In beating the Gophers (3-6), the Shorewomen (7-1) extended their winning streak over non-conference opponents to 45 consecutive meets. 

Hogstrom completed the 50-yard freestyle in :26.20, touching 2-one hundredths of a second ahead of Washington's Kathy Gerhart.

Joining Hogstrom on the 800 free relay that captured first place with a time of 9:22.90 were Pamela Sobeck (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional), Lindsey Phillipson-Weiner (Merion, PA/Lower Merion) and Sarah Keifer (Skillman, NJ/Montgomery).

Goucher's only other first-place performance in the meet was by Candace Crasto (Tallahassee, FL/Urbana) in the 100 breaststroke where her winning time was 1:16.27.

Alex Deffaa (Glen Rock, NJ/Oakwood Friends School) was runner-up in the 100 free (1:01.72) and 100 breast (1:19.93); Keifer placed second in the 1650 free (19:23.24).
