Gophers Rally From Down 18 to Complete Comeback

Lambert's Seven Points Help Gophers Close on 13-2 Run

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Susquehanna held the lead for all but the final :16 of the game, but a TaQuasia Lambert (Brooklyn, N.Y./Patapsco) game-winning three gave the Gophers their only lead of the game, earning a 52-51 win.

Olivia Nono (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) opened the scoring for Goucher (5-8, 1-2) with a jumper to cut the Susquehanna (5-9, 0-3 Landmark) lead to 5-2. It wasn't until 12:05 into the contest, however, that the Gophers would not convert another field goal.

At that point, the Gophers had already totalled nine turnovers and were 1-for-12 shooting from the floor, putting the team in a hole it would struggle to come out of.

The Crusaders headed into intermission with their largest lead of the game, 18.

To start the second frame, the Gophers stepped it up defensively, keeping the hosts from making a field goal over the first 4:52, cutting the lead to eight as part of a 12-2 run.

Susquehanna held a double-digit lead as late as 3:59 remaining, but the Gophers closed with a 13-2 run.

Lambert started the rally with a jumper to cut the lead to eight. Off of a turnover, Shante Atkinson (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) converted from the field to make it six.

Lambert then stole the ball and was fouled on back-to-back possessions, hitting all four free throws cutting the lead to two.

Candace Cannady gave Susquehanna a two-possession lead again with a jumper, but Adrienne Flowers (Columbia, Md./Pallotti) responded on Goucher's next trip down the floor to halve the lead.

After the hosts missed on the front end of a one-and-one, Goucher had a chance to tie or take the lead with :49 seconds remaining.

The Gophers came down with two offensive rebounds during the crucial possession, calling a timeout to regroup.

Out of the huddle, Precious Kollock (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) fed the ball to Lambert at the top of the key. The junior hit the three, giving Goucher its first lead of the game with :16 left.

Mariah Monahan had a chance to win it for Susquehanna, but her jumper was off the mark, rebounded by Sharnell Huff (Bowie, Md./Bowie) to ice the game.

Huff was tied for the game's lead in scoring with 15, while Lambert had 13. Each player only had two points in the first half before keying the comeback. The two players helped the Gophers get 45 of their 52 points from off the bench.
