ST. MARY'S CITY, Md - Sophomore guard Kerry Chun (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid-Pacific Institute) scored a career-high 12 points, as the Goucher College women's basketball team dropped a 75-36 decision to Washington (Md.) on Friday night as part of the Dan Greene Memorial Invitational on the campus of St. Mary's (Md.).
With the defeat, the Gophers dropped to 0-2 overall the year, while Washington captured their 2017-18 season opener in the win to move to 1-0 overall.
In the ballgame, Washington opened a 16-5 lead on Goucher after one quarter, then never trailed the rest of the way, taking an insurmountable 34-17 lead into intermission. For the second straight contest, Goucher was able to increase their offensive output in the second half, as the Gophers tallied 19 points in the last two quarters (compared to 17 in the first two periods).
Overall, Chun had a career-best scoring night to lead the Gophers in the defeat, with 12 points. Chun benefited from a great game shooting from the free throw line, as she went 6-of-7 from the charity stripe in the defeat.
Elsewhere, junior guard Nailah Jones (Glenn Dale, Md./Parkdale) scored in double-figures for the second straight game, finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds. Jones also dished out two assists and had a steal in the defeat, as well.
The Goucher College women's basketball team finishes off play at the Greene Memorial Invitational on Saturday, as they take on Hood. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
