ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Goucher College Women's basketball team (0-3) lost to the Blazers of Hood (2-0), 69-49, Saturday afternoon in their final game at the Dan Greene Memorial Invitational on the campus of St. Mary's (Md.).
In the game, the Blazers held the Gophers scoreless within the first three minutes of play, taking the lead 6-0. Goucher made a comeback, taking a 9-6 lead, with 1:44 remaining in the first quarter. The Blazers, however, regained the lead at the end of first quarter and held it for the remainder of the half, as they took 33-19 edge into halftime.
For the remainder of the contest, the Blazers led the Gophers by an average margin of 20 points, rolling to a 20-point victory.
Freshman Mya Lewis (Owings Mills, Md./Newtown) led the Gophers with 19 points, going 8-of-14 from the field. She also pulled down three rebounds and had two steals, as the 19-point total was the high for a Gopher in a game on the young season, as well.
Meanwhile, junior Nicole Wolard (Tampa, Fla./Wharton) scored a career-high of 14 points, as she nailed six free throws throughout the contest.
At the conclusion of the Dan Greene Invitational, junior Nailah Jones (Glenn Dale, Md./Parkdale) was named to the Invitational's All-Tournament team.
The Gophers return to action against Alvernia Tuesday in the Decker Sports and Recreation Center at 7 p.m.
