Wolard Posts Fourth Double-Double of Season in Defeat to No. 17 Juniata in Landmark Action

TOWSON, Md. - For the fourth time on the 2017-18 season, junior forward Nicole Wolard (Tampa, Fla.) posted a double-double for the Goucher College women's basketball team, finishing with 15 points and 13 rebounds against 17th-ranked Juniata on Wednesday night at the Decker Sports and Recreation center in Landmark Conference play.

In the contest, 17th-ranked Juniata remained unbeaten on the year with a 73-42 victory over the Gophers. With the win, Juniata improved to 14-0 overall and 3-0 in the Landmark Conference, while Goucher fell to 0-13 and 0-3 in the Landmark with the defeat.

To open the game, Goucher remained within striking distance of Juniata in the first quarter, as they trailed by just six points (13-8) with 2:10 left after a made jumper by sophomore guard Kerry Chun (Honolulu, Hawaii).

But, Juniata ended the period on a 6-0 run to open a double-digit lead at the end of the first quarter at 19-8. The Eagles took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Gophers, 11-9, to take a 30-17 lead into intermission.

The third quarter saw Juniata extend their lead out to an insurmountable 46-23 margin over Goucher halfway through the period, and from there, the Eagles never looked back the rest of the contest on their way to a road Landmark Conference win.

Overall, Wolard led the way for the Gophers in a game in the scoring column for the seventh time on the year with her 15-point performance. Wolard, who scored in double-figures for the ninth time on the year in the loss, also led the Gophers in total rebounding for the ninth time on the season in the defeat.

Elsewhere, Chun ended the game with 10 points and seven rebounds, while first-year Mya Lewis (Owings Mills, Md.) finished with seven points, three rebounds, and two assists.

The Goucher College women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, as they travel to Scranton for another Landmark Conference showdown. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
