Goucher Lands Four on 2007 All-CAC Team

Coaches Recognize Blatter for Third Straight Year

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD — Goucher landed a total of four players on the 2007 All-Capital Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Team, which was revealed today.

In balloting by the conference's eight head coaches, three of the four players from Goucher who earned all-conference honors were placed on the first team and the fourth was a second-team selection.

The Gophers' top two scorers in 2007 — junior attacker Emily Blatter (Lexington, VA/Rockbridge County) and junior midfielder Kate Knitter (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) — made the All-CAC first team along with senior goalkeeper Janna Kaufman (Atlanta, GA/Walton).

Blatter and Knitter both moved up from being second-team All-CAC selections in 2006, and that makes Blatter one of only seven players in the history of Goucher's women's lacrosse program to earn all-conference honors at least three times during her career.

Blatter finished with a team-high total of 95 points this season as she led the Gophers in goals (59) and assists (36). She already ranks third in program history in career assists with 64.

Knitter, who was also a second-team midfielder on the 2006 All-Chesapeake Region Women's Lacrosse Team, was the Gophers' second-leading scorer this season with 44 goals and 12 assists.

Kaufman, who was recruited by Goucher as a goalkeeping prospect but was a field player for the Gophers the past two seasons, switched back to the cage in 2007. She started 13 of the team's 16 games and finished with a 12.98 goals against average and a .487 save percentage.

Senior defender Freddie Newman-Blount (Lanham, MD/Bishop Ireton) was Goucher's lone second-team All-CAC performer. She collected 48 ground balls and forced 25 turnovers by the opposition while starting all 16 games.
