Another Centennial Opponent Takes Gophers Down

Blatter Finishes with Four Goals, Three Assists in 13-7 Setback

March 7, 2008

TOWSON, Md. - Goucher suffered its second loss to an opponent from the Centennial Conference in three days when the Gophers were beaten by McDaniel, 13-8, this afternoon.

The Gophers spotted the Green Terror (3-0) a quick 2-0 lead on goals by Brittany Baer and Kerrie Wuenschel in the opening 1:11. Baer and Wuenschel combined to score seven goals.

A free-position shot by Emily Blatter (Lexington, VA/Rockbridge County) produced Goucher's first goal of the contest and cut McDaniel's lead to 2-1 with 21:26 remaining in the first half. But the Green Terror never relinquished the lead and enjoyed a 6-3 advantage at halftime.

The two teams were still separated by only three goals (8-5) midway through the second half until the Green Terror struck for five consecutive goals, taking a 13-5 lead on a goal by Chelsea Ferruzzi with 4:17 left to play.

The Gophers (1-2) tallied the final three goals of the contest with Blatter picking up assists on two of them, putting the finishing touches on a four-goal, three-assist performance.

Marlo Tersigni (Worcester, MA/Lawrence Academy) supplied the Gophers with a pair of goals.

The Gophers and Green Terror have now faced each other every year since 1995. During the 13-year stretch, Goucher has prevailed seven times and McDaniel has six wins to its credit.
