April 5, 2008

TOWSON, Md. - Goucher's Brittany Foster (Portland, ME/Portland) turned away a free-position shot by Drew's Lindsay Perono with :47 remaining today to preserve the Gophers' 11-10 triumph over the Rangers.

It was one of eight saves the junior goalkeeper made in the second half as she finished with a total of 12.

By winning for the first time since a season-opening 18-16 victory over Guilford, the Gophers moved into a three-way tie with Catholic and Scranton for first place in the Landmark Conference.

By scoring the first three goals of the second half, the Gophers (2-7, 1-0 Landmark) turned a one-goal lead into a 10-6 advantage. The Rangers got one of those goals back when Brook Connell scored after being awarded a free-position shot midway through the period, but Goucher went back in front by four when Kate Knitter (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) tallied her fifth goal of the game with 13:10 remaining.

The Rangers (5-5, 0-1 Landmark) responded with three unanswered goals, closing to within 11-10 on an unassisted goal by Stacie Brown with 3:07 left to play.

The Gophers finished with a 29-25 edge in shots.
