Blatter Scores Six Times, Keeps Streak Alive

Knitter Contributes Seven Goals, Three Assists to Victory

April 19, 2008

TOWSON, Md. - Goucher's Emily Blatter (Lexington, VA/Rockbridge County) extended her goal-scoring streak to 40 games with a six-goal, three-assist performance that helped the Gophers take down Moravian, 23-12, in a Landmark Conference game played today.

The goal-scoring streak is the second-longest in NCAA Division III history, five short of the 45-game streak that Scranton's Liz Baumback put together from 2001-03.

The senior attacker's final goal against the Greyhounds, which provided the Gophers (4-9, 3-1 Landmark) with a 17-6 lead with 21:37 remaining, was also the 199th of her career.

Blatter, who put Goucher ahead to stay with an unassisted goal that snapped a 1-1 tie just 3:01 into the contest, wasn't even the Gophers' leading scorer today. That honor went to Kate Knitter (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge), who contributed seven goals and three assists to the victory for the second 10-point effort of her career.

Sandy Okun (Stevenson, MD/McDonogh School) and Marlo Tersigni (Worcester, MA/Lawrence Academy) both tallied three goals and Colleen Cole (Holliston, MA/Northfield Mt. Hermon School) scored twice for Goucher.

Although the Gophers never trailed, they were ahead by only 6-3 midway through the first half before closing the period with a 7-1 run that provided them with a commanding 13-4 advantage at the break.

Erica Spatz collected six goals for the Greyhounds (8-6, 0-4 Landmark), who were never able to string together back-to-back goals until they reeled off three in a row to close to within 21-11 with 10:17 left to play.

Both things that had to take place today in order for Goucher to clinch a berth in the upcoming Landmark Conference playoffs happened: the Gophers defeated Moravian and Scranton lost to Catholic, 18-5.
