March 12, 2009

GLASSBORO, N.J. – After falling behind 6-1 in the opening 14:06 of today's game, Goucher managed to score only four more goals the rest of the game and wound up suffering an 11-5 loss to Rowan.

Colleen Cole (Holliston, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hebron School) put the Gophers (2-3) ahead 1-0 just 1:47 into the contest, but the Profs answered back with six consecutive goals, including back-to-back goals by Kelly Angstadt just 2:39 apart. Cole ended the run when she stuck a free-position shot midway through the first half, reducing Rowan's lead to 6-2.

The only goal over the final 15:00 of the first half came off a free-position shot by Lauren Yee and provided the Profs (2-1) with a 7-2 advantage at the break.

Just as she did at the outset, Cole opened the scoring in the second half with her team-leading 13th goal of the season, allowing the Gophers to close to within 7-3. But Rowan responded by scoring the next three goals to go ahead 10-3.

Goucher's final two goals were both unassisted and were scored by Becca Smith (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) and Marlo Tersigni (Boston, Mass./Lawrence Academy) just :21 apart.

The Profs finished with a 29-16 edge in shots.
