Gophers Fend Off Late Bobcat Rally to Earn 16-15 Win

Ossorio Controls Game's Final Draw to Seal Victory

FROSTBURG, Md. — Rita Meissner (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) put Goucher up 16-10 with 13:57 remaining, but Frostburg St. rallied to pull within one before the clock ran out on the comeback attempt.

The teams alternated the first six goals as Goucher (7-7) got on the scoreboard courtesy of an Erin Reifsnyder (Austin, Texas/St. Andrew's Episcopal) strike 1:10 into the contest, keying an exchange that left the teams level at 3-3 after just 4:40.

The Gophers scored the next four goals to earn a 7-3 lead before the Bobcats (5-8) scored three straight to pull within one.

Anneke Ossorio (Lafayette, Colo./Kent Denver School) and Hannah Khin (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) each found the net to make the Goucher lead three, but Emily Walker scored back-to-back goals for the Bobcats to pull within one again.

Walker and Megan White each scored five times in a losing cause.

Khin's fourth goal in the first 30 minutes ended the first half scoring, sending the visitors to intermission up by two.

Just 40 seconds into the second half, Reifsnyder tallied her fifth goal of the game, starting a run in which the Gophers scored the first five goals of the frame.

When the dust settled after the goals from Meissner, Megan Meluskey (Wilmington, Del. / Concord) and a pair from Khin, Goucher owned its largest lead of the game, 15-8.

Khin reached 200 goals in the contest, becoming just the fifth Goucher player to hit that plateau.

Two goals from the hosts pulled the Bobcats within five, but Meissner's second tally put the Gophers in what looked to be a comfortable position, up 16-10 with 13:57 remaining.

But the Bobcats would not go quietly.

Five straight goals pulled the Capital Athletic Conference squad within one for the third time in the game with 19 seconds left.

On the ensuing draw control, Ossorio controlled the ball for the seventh time today, running out the clock and preserving the victory.
