Pride Jumps on Gophers Early, Pours It on Late

Only Goal for Goucher is Pumilia's 12th This Season

September 24, 2008

CHESTER, Pa. – Sisley Pumilia (Chesterfield, N.H./Keene) tallied her team-leading 12th goal of the season today, but not before Goucher had fallen into a 4-0 hole against Widener. The Pride tacked on three more goals following the one Pumilia scored at 57:13 to come away with a 7-1 non-conference victory over the Gophers.

Pumilia has now scored at least one goal in six of the Gophers' seven games this season.

The Pride (4-3-1) needed less than seven minutes to assume a 2-0 lead thanks to goals by Brittany Balentine at 5:53 and Brittany Harvis at 6:52. Harvis scored again at 15:07, putting her team ahead 3-0.

Widener managed only one more goal during the first half, one by Caryinna Yenchak at 15:52.

Pumila's goal came only Goucher's only shot of the contest. Widener finished with a total of 34 shots and scored three times in the final 25:00: Yenchak at 65:10 and again at 83:55, and Traci Farrell at 88:20.

Kellen Matthews (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) went the distance in goal for the Gophers (4-3) and made 14 saves, including one on a penalty kick in the second half.
