Gophers Surrender Early PK in 2-0 Setback
Matthews Comes Up with 12 Saves in 24th Consective Start
October 4, 2008
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Goucher fell behind when Susquehanna was awarded a penalty kick and successfully converted it less than five minutes into today's Landmark Conference game against Susquehanna. The rest of the way the Gophers surrendered only one controversial goal – in the 41st minute – but that was still enough for the Crusaders to record a 2-0 victory.
Abby Montgomery struck the penalty kick at 4:46 and then the Crusaders (2-6-2, 1-1 Landmark) protected their one-goal advantage until a shot by Karen Florio that bounced off the post was ruled a goal by one of the linesmen at 40:15.
Over the course of the contest, the Crusaders got off 20 shots compared to three for the Gophers (4-4-1, 0-1 Landmark).
Kellen Matthews (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin
Regional) started her 24th consecutive game in goal for
Goucher and made 12 saves.
