Lodge Provides Lead Which Leads to 3-0 Victory

First of Season Proves to be 30th Goal of Pumilia's Career

September 5, 2009

TOWSON, Md. – Goucher nursed a 1-0 lead for nearly 63 minutes this afternoon before tacking on two more goals to emerge with a 3-0 victory over Lancaster Bible at Beldon Field.

The Gophers (1-1) were able to get 14 shots off in the first half, but they had only an unassisted goal by Sarah Lodge (Pilesgrove, N.J./Woodstown) just :38 into the contest to show for their offensive efforts. It wasn't until the 64th minute that the advantage grew to 2-0 on a goal by McKenna Wilkinson (Keene, N.H./Keene) that was set up by Sarah Eaby (New Holland, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School).

At 75:16, Sisley Pumilia (Spofford, N.H./Keene) tallied her first goal of the young season to become only the third player in the history of Goucher's women's soccer program to reach 30 goals during her career. Nicole Sanfilippo (Kew Gardens, N.Y./The Wheatley School) was awarded an assist on Pumila's goal, which put the Chargers (0-1) in a 3-0 hole.

By making five saves, junior goalkeeper Kellen Matthews (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional), who was already the all-time leader in shutouts at Goucher, registered the 10th of her career.
